Killarney Rugby Club

Munster Junior League Div. 2 – Carrick –On – Suir 34 Killarney 1st XV 28

It never pays to lose home advantage and that was the only thing that prevented Killarney from a good victory here in south Tipp last Sunday. Having turned over the fixture due to regulations over late cancellations, Carrick put mud in our eye when they pipped Killarney in a free-flowing game full of action. Not even a hat-trick of tries from a fantastic performance by Brian O’Sullivan and the sheer dominance of the Killarney scrum could take the spoils. A further try by Mike Nash sealed the double-bonus points but the lads just could not force home that winning score. Paudie Sheahan added four conversions but the final score stayed at 34 – 28.

We are still ahead of Castleisland as we lie third in the table with a game in hand that could still stand to us. Muskerry fixture at home is coming up mid-February and will be crucial. Despite the loss the season has gone supremely well and thanks to Luke O’Sullivan and solid coaching from Des Foy.

The 2nd XV League game was cancelled again due to Dirreen being unplayable.

Mission Statement PDF Print E-mail

Killarney Rugby Club’s Mission is to become a universally recognised Centre of Excellence in the promotion, delivery and appreciation of rugby in our community.

  • We will develop rugby in the greater Killarney area as an active, healthy and safe pastime for males and females across all age groups.

  • We will foster a spirit of fair play and sportsmanship and eliminate foul play and anti-social behaviour at every opportunity.

  • We will develop our players physically and mentally both as individuals and as a team.

  • We will develop an ethos of fun and achievement through participation.  Match and competition success will be a consequence rather than an objective.

  • We will expect that everyone associated with the Club will respect others and the property of others at all times.  In particular, respect for appointed officials and visiting teams is paramount.

  • We will adopt and pursue the Child Welfare Policies, Codes of Conduct, Player Development Programmes and other policies of the IRFU, the Irish Sports Council and any other relevant bodies, for the ultimate benefit of our players and members.

In an effort towards achieving Our Mission, we have set ourselves the following short term objectives:

  • We will maintain ongoing development and training of all volunteers, mentors and officials so that the best possible supports will be available to our players and members across all age and genders.

  • We will develop dressing rooms, playing pitches and floodlit training facilities suitable for achieving our mission, within close proximity of Killarney.

  • We will continue to develop our Age Grade structures (i.e. youth and mini rugby) so that every child in our care can participate safely in a well supervised environment.

  • We will continue to develop our adult structures so that our teams have the opportunity to consistently deliver at their optimum level.

  • We are committed to forming a Ladies rugby team in association with the Munster Branch IRFU at the earliest feasible opportunity.

  • We will organise regular club social activities to involve all players, mentors, members and their families, where appropriate.

  • We will organise regular club fund raising events to assist in the funding of the objectives set out herein.
